(Refrain:)
Gloria In excelsis Deo
Gloria In excelsis Deo
Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heav'nly song?
Come to Bethlehem and see
Him Whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee,
Christ the Lord, the new-born King.
The cattle are lowing,
The Baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus
No crying He makes.
I love Thee, Lord Jesus;
Look down from the sky.
And stay by my side
Until morning is nigh.
Be near me, Lord Jesus,
I ask Thee to stay
Close by me for ever,
And love me, I pray.
Bless all the dear children
In Thy tender care,
And fit us for heaven
To live with Thee there.
Carol, sweetly carol,
As when the angel throng;
O'er the vales of Judah
Awoke the heavenly song:
Carol, Sweetly carol,
Good-will arid peace, and love.
Glory in the highest ,
To God Who reigns above.
Carol, sweetly carol,
The happy Christmas time;
Hark! The bells are pealing;
Their merry, merry chime:
Carol, sweetly carol,
Ye shining ones above
Sing in loudest numbers,
O sing redeeming love.
‘Twas in the moon of wintertime.
When all the birds had fled.
That mighty Gitchi-Manitou
Sent angel choirs instead.
Before their light the stars grew dim
And wond'ring hunters heard the hymn.
Refrain:
Jesus your King is born
Jesus is born.
In excelsis gloria:
Within a lodge of broken bark
The tender Babe was found.
A ragged robe of rabbit skin
Enwrapped His beauty round.
The chiefs from far before Him knelt
With gifts of fox and beaver pelt.
O children of the forest free.
O sons of Manitou.
The Holy Child of earth and heav'n
Is born today for you.
Come kneel before the radiant Boy
Who brings you beauty, peace and joy.
The first full moon of winter time
Is not so round and fair.
As was the ring of glory on
The helpless infant there.
The chiefs from far before him knelt
With gifts of fox and beaver pelt.
And all the bells on earth shall ring.
On Christmas, etc.
And all the angels in Heav'n shall sing.
On Christmas, etc.
En gloria vedlos descender, los ángeles de Dios;
(Refrain:)
O come, let us adore Him,
O come. let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore- Him,
Christ the Lord.
Sing, choirs of angels,
Siing in exultation.
Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above:
"Glory to God In the highest"
Refrain
Yea, Lord, we greet thee,
Born this happy morning.
Jesus, to Thee be glory given.
Word of the Father
Now in flesh appearing:
For Christ is born of Mary;
And, gathered all above,
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wondering love
O morning stars, together
Proclaim the holy birth,
And praises sing to God the King.
And peace to men on earth.
O Holy Child of Bethlehem.
Descend to us; we pray;
Cast out our sin, and enter in;
Be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell;
O come to us. abide with us,
Our Lord Emmanuel.
The original lyrics for the song in German, "Stille Nacht", was written by Joseph Mohr and the melody was composed by Franz X. Gruber. It is said that there exist over 300 translations of the song in the world. |
Silent night! holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight;
Glories stream from heaven afar.
Heavenly hosts sing Hallelujah.
Christ, the Saviour, is born!
Christ, the Saviour, is born!
Silent night! holy night!
Son of God love's pure light;
Radiant beams from Thy holy face.
With the dawn of redeeming grace.
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.
The Story of the Silent Night Carol. The carol Silent Night was written in 1818, by an Austrian priest Joseph Mohr. He was told the day before Christmas that the church organ was broken and would not be prepared in time for Christmas Eve. He was saddened by this and could not think of Christmas without music, so he wanted to write a carol that could be sung by choir to guitar music. He sat down and wrote three stanzas. Later that night the people in the little Austrian Church sang "Stille Nacht" for the first time. The first instrument on which the carol "Silent Night" was played was a guitar. |
Refrain:
Noël, Noël, Noël, Noël,
Born is the King of Israel.
They look-ed up and saw a star,
Shining in the east, beyond them far;
And to the earth it gave great light,
And so it continued both day and night.
And by the light of that same star
Three wise men came from country far;
To seek for a King was their intent,
And to follow the star wherever it went.
Then let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord,
That hath made heaven and earth of nought.
And with His Blood mankind hath bought.
La estrella de Belén a los magos guió;
en la noche silente en Judea brilló.
El pesebre encontraron siguiendo la luz
y le dieron presentes al niño Jesús.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel.
Hoy ha nacido el Rey de Israel.
¡Salve, Príncipe de Paz! Redención traído has,
Refrain:
The rising of the sun
And the running of the deer,
The playing of the merry organ.
Sweet singing in the choir.
The holly bears a blossom
As white as any flower,
And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ.
To be our sweet Saviour.
The holly bears a berry
As red as any blood,
And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ
To do poor sinners good.
Refrain:
O star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright:
Westward leading,
Still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect light.
Born a King on Bethlehem's plain.
Gold I bring to crown Him again.
King for ever,
Ceasing never.
Over us all to reign.
Frankincense to offer have I,
Incense owns a Deity nigh,
Prayer and praising.
All men raising
Worship Him, God most high,
Myrrh is mine; its bitter perfume
Breathes a life of gathering gloom;
Sorrowing, sighing,
Bleeding, dying,
Sealed in the stone-cold tomb.
Glorious now behold Him arise:
King and God, and Sacrifice!
Alleluia!
Alleluia!
Earth to the heavens replies.
¡Los tres Reyes, vednos aquí!,
Lejos nuestra patria está.
Siempre vimos y seguimos
La estrella que nos guió.
¡Oh, astro lleno de amor,
De belleza y fulgor!
Tu camino nos conduce
Al eterno esplendor.
"Fear not," said He (for mighty dread
Had seized their troubled niind);
"Glad tiding, of great joy I bring
To you and all mankind.
"To you in David's town, this day
Is born of David's line
A Saviour, who is Christ the Lord;
And this shall be the sign:
"The heavenly Babe you there sliall find
To human view displayed,
All meanly wrapped in swathing bands.
And in a manger laid."
Thus spake the Seraph; and forthwith
Appeared a shining throng
Of angels, praising God, who thus
Addressed their joyful song:
"All glory be to God on high,
And to the earth be peace;
Good-will henceforth from heaven to men
Begin and never cease."
Don we now our gay apparel
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.
Troll the ancient Yuletide carol
Fa-la-la-la, etc.
See the blazing Yule before us
Fa-la-la-la. etc.
Strike the harp and join the chorus
Fa-la-la-la, etc.
Follow we to merry measure.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.
While I tell the Christmas treasure
Fa-la-la-la. etc.
Fast away the old year passes,
Fa la la la la la, la la la la.
Hail the new, ye lads and lasses,
Fa la la, la la la, la la la.
Sing we joyous, all together,
Fa la la la la la, la la la la.
Heedless of the wind and weather,
Fa la la la la la, la la la la.
Por doquiera llevaremos
Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Mensaje de buenas nuevas
Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Vamos todos a cantar
Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Vamos todos a reír
Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Refrain:
O tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy.
O tidings of comfort and joy.
In Bethlehem, In Jewry,
This blessed Babe was born.
And laid within a manger.
Upon this blessed morn.
The which His mother Mary
Did nothing take in scorn.
From God, our heavenly Father
A blessed angel came:
And unto certain shepherds,
Brought, tidings of the same;
How that in Bethlehem was born
The Son of God by Name.
The shepherds at those tidings
Rejoic-ed much in mind.
And left their flocks a-feeding.
In tempest, storm and wind:
And went to Bethlehem straightaway.
The Son of God to find.
Now to the Lord sing praises.
All you within this place.
And with true love and brotherhood
Each other now embrace;
This holy tide of Christmas
All other doth deface.
Good Christian men, rejoice
With heart and soul and voice
Now ye hear of endless bliss;
Joy! Joy!
Jesus Christ was born for this
He hath ope'd the heavenly door.
And man is blessed evermore
Christ was born for this!
Christ was born for this!
"Hither, page, and stand by me.
If thou know'st it. telling,
Yonder peasant, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?"
"Sire. he lives a good league hence.
Underneath the mountain,
Right against the forest fence.
By Saint Agnes' fountain."
"Bring me flesh, and bring me wine.
Bring me pine-logs hither:
Thou and I will see him dine.
When we bear them thither."
Page and monarch, forth they went,
Forth they went together;
Through the rude wind's wild lament
And the bitter weather.
"Sire, the night is darker now.
And the wind blows stronger;
Fails my heart, I know not how;
I can go no longer."
"Mark my footsteps, my good page;
Tread thou in them boldly:
Thou shalt find the winter's rage
Freeze thy blood less coldly."
In his master's steps he trod.
Where the snow lay dinted:
Heat was in the very sod
Which the Saint had printed.
Therefore. Christian men, be sure.
Wealth or rank possessing,
Ye who now will bless the poor.
Shall yourselves find blessing.
Refrain:
Hark! the herald angels sing.
"Glory to the new-born King."
Christ, by highest heaven adored.
Christ, the everlasting Lord,
Late in time behold Him come.
Offspring of a virgin's womb,
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see;
Hail, the Incarnate Deity.
Pleased as Man with man to dwell.
Jesus, our Emmanuel!
Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace
Hail, the Son of Righteousness
Light and Life to all He brings
Risen with healing in His wings
Mild he lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die.
Born to raise the sons of earth.
Born to give them second birth.
While shepherds kept their watching
Over silent flocks by night
Behold throughout the heavens
There shone a holy light.
Refrain
The shepherds feared and trembled,
When lo! above the earth,
Rang out the angels chorus
That hailed the Savior’s birth.
Refrain
Down in a lowly manger
The humble Christ was born
And God sent us salvation
That blessèd Christmas morn.

In all our trials born to be our friend

Un peu de paille est sa couchette;
Une étable est son logement:
Pour un Dieu, quel abaissement:
Il veut nos coeurs, il les attend.
Il vient en faire la conquête;
Il veut nos coeurs, il les attend;

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy,
do you hear what I hear
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,
do you hear what I hear
A song, a song, high above the trees
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea
Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king,
do you know what I know
In your palace warm, mighty king,
do you know what I know
A Child, a Child shivers in the cold
Let us bring Him silver and gold
Let us bring Him silver and gold
Said the king to the people everywhere,
listen to what I say
Pray for peace, people everywhere!
listen to what I say
The Child, the Child, sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
dein Kleid will mich was lehren:
die Hoffnung und Beständigkeit
gibt Trost und Kraft zu aller Zeit.
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
dein Kleid will mich was lehren.
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
dein Kleid will mich was lehren:
die Hoffnung und Beständigkeit
gibt Trost und Kraft zu aller Zeit.
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
dein Kleid will mich was lehren.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
Your branches green delight us.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
You give us so much pleasure!
How oft at Christmas tide the sight,
O green fir tree, gives us delight!
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
You give us so much pleasure!
O Christmas Tree [Another version]
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree!
How are thy leaves so verdant!
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
How are thy leaves so verdant!
Not only in the summertime,
But even in winter is thy prime.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
How are thy leaves so verdant!
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Much pleasure doth thou bring me!
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Much pleasure doth thou bring me!
For every year the Christmas tree,
Brings to us all both joy and glee.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Much pleasure doth thou bring me!
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy candles shine out brightly!
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy candles shine out brightly!
Each bough doth hold its tiny light,
That makes each toy to sparkle bright.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy candles shine out brightly!
Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
A day or two ago
I thought I'd take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
We got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot
Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh yeah
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
Till ringing, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
And in despair I bowed my head
“There is no peace on earth,” I said,
“For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.”
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men.”
See, amid the winter's snow,
Born for us on earth below,
See, the Tender lamb appears,
Promised from eternal years!
Hail, thou ever blessed morn,
Hail, redemption's happy dawn,
Sing through all Jerusalem,
Christ is born in Bethlehem.
Lo, within the manger lies,
He who built the starry skies,
He, who throned in heights sublime,
Sits amid the cherubim.
Hail, thou ever blessed morn,
Hail, redemption's happy dawn,
Sing through all Jerusalem,
Christ is born in Bethlehem.
Say, ye holy shepherds, say,
What your joyful news today?
Wherfore have ye left your sheep
On the lonely mountain steep?
Hail, thou ever blessed morn,
Hail, redemption's happy dawn,
Sing through all Jerusalem,
Christ is born in Bethlehem.
As we watched at dead of night,
Lo, we saw a woundrous light;
Angels singing peace on earth,
Told us of the Savior's birth.
Hail, thou ever blessed morn,
Hail, redemption's happy dawn,
Sing through all Jerusalem,
Christ is born in Bethlehem.
Sacred Infant, all divine,
What a tender love was Thine,
Thus to come from highest bliss
Down to such a world as this.
Hail, thou ever blessed morn,
Hail, redemption's happy dawn,
Sing through all Jerusalem,
Christ is born in Bethlehem.
Teach, O teach us, Holy Child,
By Thy face so meek and mild,
Teach us to resemble Thee,
In Thy sweet humility!
Hail, thou ever blessed morn,
Hail, redemption's happy dawn,
Sing through all Jerusalem,
Christ is born in Bethlehem.
'Twas Mary, daughter pure of holy Anne,
That brought into this world the God made man.
She laid him in a stall at Bethlehem;
The ass and oxen shared the roof with them.
Venite adoremus Dominum.
Venite adoremus Dominum.
Saint Joseph, too, was by to tend the child;
To guard him, and protect his mother mild;
The angels hovered round, and sang this song,
Venite adoremus Dominum.
Venite adoremus Dominum.
Venite adoremus Dominum.
And thus that manger poor became a throne;
For he whom Mary bore was God the Son.
O come, then, let us join the heavenly host;
To praise the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Venite adoremus Dominum.
Venite adoremus Dominum.
Long ago was born a King, to Him we now do sing,
Play your music sweet and clear, Tu-re-lu-re-lu, pat-a-pat-a-pan
Play your music sweet and clear, sounding Noels of good cheer.
He was born on Christmas Day, celebrate with us, come play,
Let the music sound again, Tu-re-lu-re-lu, pat-a-pat-a-pan
Let the music sound again, merry Christmas to all men.
I want to wish you a Merry Christmas,
I want to wish you a Merry Christmas,
I want to wish you a Merry Christmas,
From the bottom of my heart
Feliz Navidad, Feliz Navidad
Feliz Navidad, Prospero año y felicidad.
Feliz Navidad, Feliz Navidad
Feliz Navidad, Prospero año y felicidad.
Angels sang about His birth, Wise Men sought and found Him;
Heaven's star shone brightly forth Glory all around Him.
Shepherds saw the wondrous sight, heard the angels singing;
All the plains were lit that night, all the hills were ringing.
Gentle Mary laid her Child lowly in a manger;
He is still the Undefiled, but no more a stranger.
Son of God of humble birth, beautiful the story;
Praise His name in all the earth, Hail! the King of Glory!
[Note] In 1825, Schubert created the most popular of all his compositions, the so-called "Ave Maria". Although this is widely performed all over the world, the text most commonly used with Schubert's music is not the poem the composer originally set to music, but the Latin "Ave Maria" prayer text is commonly forced to fit Schubert's notes, and it almost succeeds with a few awkward places here and there. However, the text of the "Hail Mary" prayer bears little resemblance to the original poem. It is unknown who first forced this setting, but it is a fact that the song with its "adapted" Latin words is now the version most commonly performed. What Schubert actually wrote, he called Ellens dritter Gesang (Ellen's third song). The words are from a German translation of a work by Sir Walter Scott, The Lady of the Lake, and Schubert set six or seven songs from this work. In this particular scene Ellen Douglas, in hiding, prays to the Virgin Mary. |
Ave Maria! Jungfrau mild,
Erhöre einer Jungfrau Flehen,
Aus diesem Felsen starr und wild
Soll mein Gebet zu dir hinwehen,
Wir schlafen sicher bis zum Morgen,
Ob Menschen noch so grausam sind.
O Jungfrau, sieh' der Jungfrau Sorgen,
O Mutter, hör' ein bittend Kind!
Ave Maria!
Ave Maria! Unbefleckt!
Wenn wir auf diesen Fels hinsinken
Zum Schlaf, und uns dein Schutz bedeckt,
Wird weich der harte Fels uns dünken
Du lächelst, Rosendüfte wehen
In dieser dumpfen Felsenkluft.
O Mutter, hör' des Kindes Flehen,
O Jungfrau, eine Jungfrau ruft!
Ave Maria!
Ave Maria! Reine Magd!
Der Erde und der Luft Dämonen,
Von deines Auges Huld verjagt,
Sie können hier nicht bei uns wohnen
Wir woll'n uns still dem Schicksal beugen,
Da uns dein heil'ger Trost anweht;
Du Jungfrau wolle hold dich neigen,
Dem Kind, das für den Vater fleht!
Ave Maria!
Belén, campanas de Belén,
que los ángeles tocan
¿qué nueva me traéis?
Recogido tu rebaño
¿a dónde vas pastorcillo?
Voy a llevar al portal
requesón, manteca y vino.
Belén, campanas de Belén,
que los ángeles tocan
¿qué nueva me traéis?
Campana sobre campana,
y sobre campana dos,
asómate a esa ventana,
porque está naciendo Dios.
Belén, campanas de Belén,
que los ángeles tocan
¿qué nueva me traéis?
Campana sobre campana,
y sobre campana tres,
en una Cruz a esta hora,
el Niño va a padecer.
Belén, campanas de Belén,
que los ángeles tocan
¿qué nueva me traéis?
Refrain:
The bells, the bells of Bethlehem
Are ringing out the tidings,
"good will to all men!"
Leave your sheep and come,
O shepherds, presents bring the Babe so lowly,
Bring some cheese and bring some wine
For the Mother Mary holy.
The bells, the bells of Bethlehem
Are ringing out the tidings,
"Good will to all men!"
Shepherds, if you will but hasten,
Mary the beautiful Virgin,
May grant that you may be keeping
Watch o'er the dear Baby sleeping.
English Lyrics by Norman Luboff
A la nanita nana, nanita ea, nanita ea,
Sleep, sleep my little Jesus,
May peace attend Thee, may peace attendThee.
To the world, little Savior, New hope thou'rt bringing
All the world, little Savior, Thy praises singing,
God's angels hov'ring o'er Thee chant alleluia.
A la nanita nana, nanita ea.
Pero mira como beben
los peces en el río,
pero mira como beben
por ver al Dios nacido.
Beben y beben y vuelven a beber,
los peces en el río
por ver a Dios nacer.
La Virgen se está peinando
entre cortina y cortina,
sus cabellos son de oro,
el peine de plata fina.
Pero mira como beben
los peces en el río,
pero mira como beben
por ver al Dios nacido.
Beben y beben y vuelven a beber,
los peces en el río
por ver a Dios nacer.
La Virgen va caminando
por entre aquellas palmeras,
el Niño mira en sus ojos,
el color de la vereda.
Pero mira como beben
los peces en el río,
pero mira como beben
por ver al Dios nacido.
Beben y beben y vuelven a beber,
los peces en el río
por ver a Dios nacer.
Por debajo del arco
del portalito,
se descubre a María,
José y el Niño.
Ay, del Chiquirritín,
Chiquirriquitín,
metidito entre pajas;
ay, del Chiquirritín
Chiquirriquitín,
queridito del alma.
Entre un buey y una mula
Dios ha nacido,
y en un pobre pesebre
le han recogido.
Ay, del Chiquirritín,
Chiquirriquitín,
metidito entre pajas;
ay, del Chiquirritín
Chiquirriquitín,
queridito del alma.
No me mires airado,
hijito mío;
mírame con los ojos
que yo te miro.
Ay, del Chiquirritín,
Chiquirriquitín,
metidito entre pajas;

Refrain:
Fa la la la, Fa la la la la, Fa la la la,
Fa la , Fa la, Fa la, Fa la.
Perche piangi, o mio tresor?
Dolce amor, dolce amor!
Fa la nanna, o caro figlio,
Tanto bel, tanto bel,
Fa la nanna, o caro figlio.
Refrain:
Fa la la la, Fa la la la la, Fa la la la,
Fa la, Fa la, Fa la, Fa la.
O my sweet treasure, do not weep!
Sweetly sleep, sweetly sleep,
Close your eyes my Son, my dear one.
Sweetly sleep, sweetly sleep,
Close your eyes, my Son, my dear one.
Estribillo:
Este es un lerum, lamaruxina,
Este es un lerum en el portal;
Vaya prosigo este cantar,
Vaya prosigo este cantar.
Lerum, lerum, lerum, la!
(Que viva!)
En el portal de Belen
Hay estrella, sol y luna:
La Virgen y San Jose
Y el Nino que esta en la cuna
Estribillo
Entro al portal un gallego
Que vengo desde Galicia
Y le traigo al Nino Dios
Lienzo para una camisa
Estribillo
Entro un gitano al portal
De Granada vengo a aqui
Y le traigo al Nino Dios
Un gallo quiquirqui.
Estribillo
Refrain:
Sing now of Jesus, of the dear baby,
O what a wondrous gift from above!
He has our hearts and all of our love!
He has our hearts and all of your love!
Lerum, lerum, lerum. la!
There within the dingy stable
Sun and moon and star are shining:
Joseph, Mary and the Baby,
For whom all our hearts were pining.
Refrain
To His side, a lowly shepherd,
From the Spanish plains appearing,
Brings the Baby gifts of linen,
So a shirt He can be wearing.
Refrain
Also near Him stands a gypsy
From Granada he comes hieing,
Bringing to the Babe a rooster;
"Cock-a-doodle-doo," it's crying.
Refrain
L'ocell rei d'espai
Va pels aires volant,
Cantant amb melodia,
Dient: Jesus es nat
Per treure'ns del pecat
I darnos alegria.
Dient: Jesus es nat
Per treure'ns del pacat
I darnos alegria.
Respont-il el pardal:
Esta nit es Nadal
I es nit de gran contento
El verdum i el lluer
Diuen, cantant tambe:
O, quina alegria sento.
El verdum i el lluer
Diuen, cantant tambe:
O, quina alegria sento.
Cantava la perdiu:
Me'n vaig a fer el niu
Dins d'aguella establiam
Per voure l'Infant
Com esta tremolant
En bracos de Maria.
Per voure L'Infant
En bracos de Maria.
The Nightingale is first
To bring his son of cheer,
And tell us of his gladness:
"Jesus, our Lord, is born
To free us from all sin,
And banish ev'ry sadness!
Jesus, our Lord, is born
To free us from all sin,
And banish ev'ry sadness!"
The answ'ring Sparrow cries:
"God comes to earth this day
Amid the angels flying."
Trilling in sweetest tones,
The Finch his Lord now owns:
"To Him be all thanksgiving."
Trilling in sweetest tones,
The Finch his Lord now owns:
"To Him be all thanksgiving."
The Partridge adds his note:
"To Bethlehem I'll fly,
Where in the stall He'l lying.
There, near the manger blest,
I'll build myself a nest,
And sing my love undying.
There, near the manger blest,
I'll build myself a nest,
And sing my love undying."
Que li darem al Fillet de Maria,
Que li darem a l'hermos Infanto?
Panses i figures i nuez i olives,
Panses i figures i mel i mato.
Panses i figures i nuez olives,
Panses i figures i mel i mato.
Tam patantam, que les figures son verdes,
Tam patantam, que ja maduraran.
Si no maduren el dia de Pasqua,
Maduraran en el dia del Ram.
Si no maduren el dia de Pasqua,
Maduraran en el dia del Ram.
What shall we give the Beloved of Mary?
What can we give to her beautiful Child?
Raisins and olives and nutmeats and honey,
Candy and figs and some cheese that is mild.
Raisins and olives and nutmeats and honey,
Candy and figs and some cheese that is mild.
What shall we do if the figs are not ripened?
What shall we do if the figs are still green?
We shall not fret; if they're not ripe for Easter,
On a Palm Sunday, ripe figs will be seen.
We shall not fret, if they're not ripe for Easter,
On a Palm Sunday, ripe figs will be seen.
Tu disceso a scontare l'error, Tu sol nato a parlare d'amor,
He's born in a stable for you and for me,
Draw near by the bright gleaming starlight to see,
In swaddling clothes lying so meek and so mild,
And purer than angels the heavenly Child.
See Mary and Joseph, with love beaming eyes,
Are gazing upon the rude bed where He lies,
The shepherds are kneeling, with hearts full of love
While angels sing loud hallelujahs above.
Kneel down and adore Him with shepherds today,
Lift up little hands now and praise Him as they
Rejoice that a Saviour from sin you can boast,
And join in the song of the heavenly host.
